One for the boys||Cologne, Germany

Ok so my first post was all for the girls now It's all about the boys.

Boys one European city which I think is definitely worth a visit is Cologne in Germany. Although Cologne may not be the capital city, it is certainly one that is up and coming and is great for that last minute planned weekend get away.

In this post I will be bringing you many different things to see and do and where to stay in the city for your weekend of fun with you and the guys.

I'm sure the first thing you will want to plan on your weekend away is where to stay.
Just like in my girls post before I am going to give you some great idea's of places to stay in Cologne on a budget. I will also include accommodation which could be considered a little more upmarket if you and your friends want to get away in style.

There are over 200 hotels to choose from in Cologne here are some of the great ones I have found...

Ranked #1 on the trip advisor website and winner of the 2013 Travellers choice award the  5* Excelsior Hotel Ernst is located in a brilliant location right next to Cologne Cathedral and a few minutes from the Cologne central train station it is proved to be a popular hotel amongst tourists.

Although the prices per night are not cheap, the facilities, rooms and friendly help staff are definitely worth every penny. To read all of the hotel reviews and get more information you can visit the Trip Advisor website here.

Rooms start from around £158* (*based on two adults sharing for two nights)

For something a little more affordable Cologne has to offer lots of great budget hotels.
One which is highly recommended is the 4 star Ameron Hotel Regent which is located just a short distance from the centre of Cologne. The hotel is said to be very tourist friendly and the good thing about its location is it is situated outside the tram station which takes you into the centre of town within minutes.

That is just two examples of very different hotels which you can expect to see in Cologne, there are hundreds more so it definitely worth doing your research before you embark on your trip. To make it easy I have included some websites which will allow you to do this.

Trip Advisor is one of my favourite travelling websites and is usually my first port of call when trying to plan where to stay and what to see when on holiday so it is advised before you head to Cologne to check this website out.

Once you have had a look on Trip Advisor and you have found your ideal hotel from its many hotel comparison searches you can then begin to think about booking it. I recommend using the booking.com  website as it easy to use and it refreshes its availability searches live so you know exactly when a hotel becomes fully booked. It also lets you know who is looking at the same hotel as you and when the last booking was made. You can also take advantage of the great discount room's it often has on offer.

What to see and do?...

So you have chosen your hotel and you are finally here in Cologne ready to get your weekend of fun under way... there is so much to do so where to begin?? Look no further because I will be bringing to you some great suggestions which will be sure to make your weekend away one never to forget!

Most tourists come to visit Cologne to soak up the historical culture, however on your lads weekend away I expect you are thinking about one thing and that's... beer! And there is nothing popular here then drinking beer especially locally brewed Kólsh.

EA Sports Bar:

Are you and your friends big sports fans? If so the EA Sports Bar could be just what you are looking for. Situated on Im Zollhafen street in the centre of Cologne this bar is a great meeting place for all the lads to talk about their favourite sports whilst sinking a pint of the locally famous brewed beer.

All Bar One:

Is a busy and very popular amongst tourists because this bar/restaurant has a late night license and stays open until 3am most nights. By day this is the perfect place to dine and by night it is busy vibrant and you can always expect to see a large crowd.

If you are looking for somewhere to go after hours there are many clubs and larger venues here with lots to offer. For a full guide and more information you can visit the Resident Advisor page which will give you a full list of all the clubs and their events ready to help you plan your big night out.
