The big post Christmas detox||Island Life

Hands up who over-indulged this Christmas? Glad I'm not the only one guilty here. Now that the holidays are well and truly over-boo! and we are all back to work with the January blues setting in, I thought it was time for the big post-Christmas detox to officially start... So this weeks feature post is going to be all about a great place to visit for a relaxing and cleansing mini break. Hope this gives you all the motivation to cleanse the mind and body ready for the year ahead.

Next weekend I will be returning to the one place I can always rely on when I need to detox my mind and forget about the daily stresses in my life and that's Sweden- more about that next week. Sweden is a beautiful country which I have mentioned in several of my posts last year.. you can read all about my first trip to Stockholm HERE and although I love everything about Sweden from its people to its amazing night life, there are some other great places in the world I would love to visit. Here they are...

1. The Maldives

This is my number one relaxing and cleansing destination, and it really isn't hard to see why... The blue and green waters and white sand beaches are just one reason why thousands flock here each year for the ultimate chill out holiday. I find it hard to see why anyone would not want to visit these beautiful islands. Although the holiday itself doesn't come cheap, it really is the holidays of a life time as there is so many different things to see and do with a wide range of beautiful accommodation to stay in. Below are just a few suggestions.

Getting here...

Unfortunately there are no direct flights straight to The Maldives as there are no international airports on the island, so you will need to take a direct flight to the nearest international airport which is Male. The cheapest direct flights to Male I have found for around this time are with British Airways from around £643 return. See HERE for more details.

There are other options which usually require a stop over in Dubai and this costs from around £680 but I would say it is definitely worth the money and extra time it takes, because you are getting to experience a little bit of Dubai on your trip as well.

Once you have arrived at Male Airport you will then need to get a special sea plane which will take you onto the island. The price of the sea plan is usually included in the overall price of your holiday, this is something you need to make sure you check with your company or the resort where you are staying before you fly. As you may or may not be aware there are over 50 islands which make up The Maldives, each of these islands vary in price (accommodation wise) and the time in which it takes from Male to get to each island is also different so it is worth checking before you make your travel arrangements which island you will  be staying at. You can check all info HERE

The resort...

One resort which caught my eye on the internet is Kuredu. This resort is al inclusive so it is very good value for money despite still being very luxurious. There are lots of facilities on this island including a golf course and a driving range as well as other sports facilities. Children are also welcome onto this island and it offers a very friendly family atmosphere. There are no formal babysitting services on the island but it does offer a free kids club which is open from various times during the day and there is also lots of other activities especially for guests with families.

There is a lot of choice when it comes to rooms and they each vary in price, for an up to date guide click HERE (and go to the rooms section of the website).

Things to do...

You may be thinking that being stuck on an island for 7 days sounds quite limiting but you couldn't be more wrong. There are lots of activities to do and lots to see including some great wildlife on the island. Why not try some snorkelling or if you fancy being really adventure try a spot of deep sea diving.

If water sports don't float your boat (excuse the pun) why not give golf a try? The Kuredu island has an impressively large golf course and driving range for you to practise on.

Why not relax and sink a nice cold pint or try a specially made fruity cocktail at one of the islands best bar lounge areas located right on the beach.

Complete with free Wi-fi access and a huge plasma TV showing an array of different sporting events and other various programmes you can easily spend a whole day eating drinking and socialising with other holiday makers here.

There are just a few suggestions of great places to stay and things to do if you plan to visit the Maldives.. There are lots of travel tips I haven't had the time to mention but if you are considering holidaying in The Maldives I suggest it is really worth checking out trip advisor's page which you can find HERE.

So there we have just a few points about visiting The Maldives for a lovely relaxing and detoxing break. What are some of the things you will be doing this year to relax? Let me know in the comments box below.
