Travel Guide Tuesday||Copenhagen, Denmark

Back again with a brand new guide for you all to enjoy. Last time I wrote all about Oslo in Norway if you missed it you can catch it here. This week being our third week into the new series I thought I would focus on another country I have been desperate to visit and that is Denmark, I especially want to explore their Capital Copenhagen.

Below are some of my recommendations of what to do, eat and where to sleep if you are planning a trip to Copenhagen this year or next.

Copenhagen||The Facts

Copenhagen is the Capital and largest City in Denmark, which is a country in the North of Europe. Copenhagen is situated on the eastern coast of Zealand. It is also east of Odense and north west of Malmo, Sweden.

Copenhagen was first founded as a Fishing village back in the 10th Century and fishing is still key in today's society here. Copenhagen is one of the major financial centres of Northern Europe within the Copenhagen stock exchange.

The City is widely recognised for its Canals too (maybe not as famous as Amsterdam's canals) and it has around 7 canal spots scattered around the city. They are: The Christianshavn Kanal, Frederiksholm Kanal, Nyhavn, Slotsholmen, Sluseholmen Kanal, Stedsgraven and the Wlders Kanal.

Copenhagen is one of the highest ranking Cities in Europe for its quality of life. Coming out on top in areas such as education, stability of its economy and the cities level of social safety. It is also ranked highly for its creativity and culture in the city.

How to get here||Flights

There are two main Airports located in Copenhagen, Copenhagen and then Cop If you are thinking of taking a trip to Copenhagen from the UK there are loads of airlines which fly to Copenhagen. Airlines which offer direct flights include British Airways, SAS, Norwegian, Easyjet and Ryanair.

Flights with British Airways cost from £210(pp one way) and for lost cost fares book with Easy Jet, prices from as low as £34 (pp one way).  For more info and to see what other Airlines fly to Copenhagen make sure you check out The Skyscanner website.

Where to stay||Hotels

There's loads of amazing Hotels in Copenhagen you could stay in, you are really spoilt for choice. Here's a couple I have found to suit all budgets. The website I used was Booking.com but there are lots of others you may wish to use out there too.

Luxury Budget...

According the Booking.com website there are only 5 5 star hotels in Copenhagen, most are located in the City Centre. Most of these 5 star's are well known chain hotels located in the City centre (Hovedstaden area) they include :-

 Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Copenhagen

Located on Hammerichsgade Street in the centre of the City. For a standard Guest room with a private bath expect to pay around £175.00 per night (Breakfast £19.00 extra pp)

 Copenhagen Marriott Hotel

To stay in this beautiful hotel which is situated on Kalvebod Brygge street again right in the centre it will cost  £146.00 for a Double room with a city view. (No breakfast included). Hotel is situated on the harbour and has some incredible views of the city. The hotel is very big as you can see below it holds 407 rooms so if you are looking for something a little more on the smaller side I would suggest opting for another hotel. If however you are travelling with Children this Hotel should definitely be a contender. It has some fantastic facilities for all the family and it is very near to the centre of the city.

Nimb Hotel

The Nimb Hotel which is a small 5 star boutique hotel with only 17 rooms is located just 50 yards from Copenhagen's iconic Tivoli Gardens and just by looking at the exterior I already can tell it looks like my ideal hotel. The rooms are all large and luxurious and come complete with 4 poster beds and modern spacious private bathrooms.

The hotel also has an extensive amount of restaurant/bars all serving a variety of cuisine's to suit all tastes. You have the choice of the Nimb Brasserie and Terrasse which serves up more traditional Scandinavian dishes as well as French Cuisine.

You can also get the Metro from the city centre to the Airport in only 20 minutes.

-Copenhagen Zoo-

If you are someone who is like me and LOVES animals and you like to explore why not combine both loves and visit Copenhagen's Zoo? The Zoo is located between Frederiksberg Have and the Sondermarken parks and the grounds are approximately 27 acres. It is very centrally located and easy to access and usually holds around a million visitors per year. There are around 3,000 animals and approximately 264 species in the Zoo, and the Zoo was founded in 1859 making it one of the oldest in the world.

Their ticketing system is also very easy as all Trains, The Metro and Buses can all be accessed using just one ticket. The only thing you need to check on your journey is how many zone's you will pass.

Line F runs every 4-5 minutes and is on the Light Pink Line. It goes from Ryparken to Ny Ellebjerg and is the shortest line out of them all.

Line A,B,C and E run every 10 minutes.

 Line A runs from Hillerod to Solrod Strand it is the Light Cyan line on the map and also the longest.

Line B is the Yellow line and goes from Farum to Hoje Taastrup.

Line C goes from Frederikssund to Klampenborg and is on the Green Line.

You will need to check what zone you are in and what zone(s) you will be passing in, in order to pay the correct fare. Buses also offer public transport services throughout the city.They are very distinctive as they are all Yellow with some Red colouring. There are 3 major types of services of buses in Copenhagen below explains them all in a bit more details.

-A Buses-

These are the main buses and most popular they are usually in service at all hours. Expect to wait 3-7 minutes for an A bus during the rush hour in the morning and early afternoon. After the rush hour you should expect to wait every 10 minutes for this bus.
