Borough

The district of Borough/ Southwark

is probably most notable for the very famous Borough Market  one of the oldest (and biggest) food markets in London. In 2014 it turned 1,000 it is very popular amongst tourists and locals alike. It is open every Wednesday & Thursday from 10am to 5pm, Friday's from 10am to 6pm and Saturday's 8am to 5pm and is located opposite London Bridge Station.

Borough High Street is one of the most famous roads in the area it runs south west from London Bridge, forming part of the A3 route. You also have another main road in the called Borough Road which has a SE1 postcode and runs east to west between 'St George's Circus' and 'Borough High Street'.

Borough is notable and near to loads of tourist spots in London, and because of its fantastic links to busy mainline stations including London Waterloo and London Bridge there is so much to see and do in the area. Borough is also very near to 'The Shard', Europe's tallest building which again attracts many visitors a year.

I am now going to take a trip back in time to show you what the area looked liked throughout the years, and what it looks like today.

Restaurants/Bars/Entertainment

Here is a quick round up of some of my favourite places I've been lucky enough to wine and dine in, in the area. See if you can spot your favourite too.

Jamie's London Bridge
Location: 10-18 London Bridge Street, SE1 9SG
Open from: See website

Located conveniently next to the shard (near London Bridge Station) this lively restaurant and cocktail bar is more at the sophisticated end of the spectrum compared to some other local eateries, but the best thing about this place is it is still happily affordable (Not to be confused with Jamie Oliver's restaurants). You will feel spoiled by the interior (think chic modern décor, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling) and the exterior (views of the Shard), the service is excellent and laid back (they never push you to finish or give up your table). Be warned however, this place fills up VERY quickly during the weekends especially around 5pm on a Friday when most of the restaurants clientèle are Young City workers celebrating the end of a long week.  So you may want to reserve a table during the weekends.

Stand out dishes:
Bbq pulled pork with hickory sauce and home made slaw served in a Brioche bun with salad and skin on fries. £10.50
Nachos- £8.95
Vanilla Cheesecake with Passion fruit coulis- £4.95

Aqua at the Shard
Location: 32 London Bridge Street, SE1 9SG
Opening Hours: Please visit website
Nearest tube: London Bridge

Sorry if you feel like this post is too focused on The Shard but I really can't help but promote it! I have been so many times now (as it is right on my door step) and never get bored, there is so much to see and eat/drink here. My favourite bar is called Aqua at the Shard. The menu is pretty cracking as well, it is one of my favourite restaurants in the shard (and there are 6 in total) it is located on Floor 31 and the style of food is British Contemporary. Be warned there is a strict dress code to dine here, i.e no sports wear, flip flops and shorts (male).

There is something so magical about sitting with great food, drinks and company and looking down to see the city you live in (especially if you LOVE your home town, like I do) so this is my recommendation of the post. Get yourself down to The Shard on your next visit into London and believe me you wont be left disappointed.
